Swan Haven School Programs

New in 2017 - Yukon Wildlife Preserve will be delivering Swan Haven School Programs on behalf of Environment Yukon's Wildlife Viewing Program.  We'll be offering the same great programs at the Swan Haven Interpretive Centre!

School programs have always been a large part of spring activities at Swan Haven. Hundreds of school children make the trip with their classes to participate in hands-on activities and games, in a spectacular outdoor classroom.

Why Bring my class to Swan Haven?

Students are treated to the sights and sounds of spring, complemented by fun activities geared towards appreciating and understanding the spring migration of swans and other birds as they rest and feed at M'Clintock Bay. The hands-on activities delivered by Yukon Wildlife Preserve programmers teaches students about birds and habitats.  

Who can book Swan Haven School Programs?

Teachers can brings classes from grades 2 to 6. To ensure a high quality experience, the maximum number of students is 48 (2 classes maximum). 

The Swan Haven school programs follow curriculum guidelines.  Ideally, students will return to Swan Haven year after year always learning something new about swans & other water birds! 

Where do Swan Haven School Programs take place?

All interpretive programs during April take place at the Swan Haven Interpretive Centre at M'Clintock Bay on Marsh Lake - about 40km south of Whitehorse

When can I bring my class?

15 days of programming are offered between April 3, 2017 and April 25, 2017. We will do our best to arrange special timelines for schools travelling from communities outside of Whitehorse. Swan Haven programs are free to Yukon students, all you have cover is the cost of transportation!  Book early to avoid disappointment!  

Morning programs: 10:00am-12:00pm

Afternoon programs: 12:30pm-2:30pm

How do I book a Swan Haven School Program?

We will need the following information to make a booking:

  • Your school;
  • Teacher Name(s) (if more than one class is coming, we'll need contacts for each class);
  • Email addresses (if different from the standard firstname.lastname@yesnet.yk.ca);
  • Grade(s) and class sizes:
    • We can accommodate 2 classes (not exceeding 48 children);
  • The dates and times you are interested in (please provide several dates so that we can accommodate as many classes as possible);
  • Any special needs - especially mobility related disabilities (the more we know the better experience we can provide you).
  • Do you plan on eating lunch at the Swan Haven picnic site?
